Medium Density Approvals

The graph below shows the number of building approvals for new medium density in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne from 2001/2002 until December 2006/07. 

Sydney
There have been approximately 83,000 medium density approvals throughout Sydney between 2001/2002 to December 2006/07.  This is more than double the number of medium density approvals recorded in Brisbane.  The number of approvals peaked in 2002/03 and has continued to decline.  If the current trend recorded in the first half of 2006/07 continues then the number of medium density approvals will be higher than the total recorded in 2005/06.  This trend was also witnessed in the number of houses approved in Sydney.

Brisbane
There have been approximately 31,000 medium density approvals throughout Brisbane between 2001/2002 to December 2006/07.  The number of approvals peaked in 2003/04 and has continued to decline.  If the current trend recorded in the first half of 2006/07 continues then the number of medium density approvals will be a record low.  This trend was also witnessed in the number of houses approved in Brisbane.

Melbourne
There have been approximately 51,000 medium density approvals throughout Melbourne between 2001/2002 to December 2006/07.  The number of approvals peaked in 2002/03 and has continued to decline.  If the current trend recorded in the first half of 2006/07 continues then the number of medium density approvals will be higher than the total recorded in 2005/06.  This trend was also witnessed in the number of houses approved in Melbourne.

The graph below shows the number of building approvals for new houses in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne from 2001/2002 until December 2006/07. 

Sydney

Approximately 50,000 homes have been approved throughout Sydney between 2001/2002 to December 2006/07.  The number of approvals peaked in 2001/02 and has continued to decline. 
If the current trend recorded in the first half of 2006/07 continues then the number of house approvals will be slightly higher than the total recorded in 2005/06.

Brisbane

Approximately 62,000 homes have been approved throughout Brisbane between 2001/2002 to December 2006/07.  The number of approvals peaked in 2002/03 and has continued to decline. 
If the current trend recorded in the first half of 2006/07 continues then the number of house approvals will be a record low.

Melbourne
Approximately 119,000 homes have been approved throughout Melbourne between 2001/2002 to December 2006/07, equivalent to the total the number of houses recorded in Sydney and Brisbane.  The number of approvals peaked in 2001/02 and has continued to decline.  If the current trend recorded in the first half of 2006/07 continues then the number of house approvals will be higher than the total recorded in 2005/06.  The number of approvals recorded in the first half of 2006/07 within Melbourne is more than the total number approved in 2005/06 in Brisbane.
