The graph below shows the number of building approvals for new medium density in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne from 2001/2002 until December 2006/07.
Sydney
There have been approximately 83,000 medium density approvals throughout Sydney between 2001/2002 to December 2006/07. This is more than double the number of medium density approvals recorded in Brisbane. The number of approvals peaked in 2002/03 and has continued to decline. If the current trend recorded in the first half of 2006/07 continues then the number of medium density approvals will be higher than the total recorded in 2005/06. This trend was also witnessed in the number of houses approved in Sydney.
Brisbane
There have been approximately 31,000 medium density approvals throughout Brisbane between 2001/2002 to December 2006/07. The number of approvals peaked in 2003/04 and has continued to decline. If the current trend recorded in the first half of 2006/07 continues then the number of medium density approvals will be a record low. This trend was also witnessed in the number of houses approved in Brisbane.
Melbourne
There have been approximately 51,000 medium density approvals throughout Melbourne between 2001/2002 to December 2006/07. The number of approvals peaked in 2002/03 and has continued to decline. If the current trend recorded in the first half of 2006/07 continues then the number of medium density approvals will be higher than the total recorded in 2005/06. This trend was also witnessed in the number of houses approved in Melbourne.
