The following graph illustrates the number of house and unit sales in Sydney since 1995.
The number of house and unit sales peaked in 2002 and has continued to decline.  A slight rise in turnover was recorded in 2005 despite the cash rate rising to 5.5%.

The total number of house sales recorded in 2006 was at a 12-year low whilst the total number of unit sales was at an 11-year low.  If the current trend witnessed in the first three months of 2007 continues a record low is likely to occur for both house and unit transactions.
